What is CoQ10?

Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10), also known as 'ubiquinone', is a substance that is similar to a vitamin. It is naturally produced in our bodies and is used by our cells to generate the energy we need to function.

What causes CoQ10 deficiency?

Two major contributing factors to a CoQ10 deficiency are age and the use of statins:

  • As we get older our ability to naturally produce CoQ10 reduces
  • Statin drugs can inhibit the body's natural production of CoQ10 during use

What are the symptoms of CoQ10 deficiency?

Whilst everyone is different, people who have a deficiency in CoQ10 levels often experience physical fatigue and muscle weakness, even while undertaking relatively non-strenuous physical activities such as walking. Low CoQ10 levels can also cause mental fatigue, with symptoms including difficulty in concentrating, and memory lapses.

What are the sources of CoQ10?

Diet

CoQ10 is present in small amounts in animal organs such as the heart, liver and kidneys, as well as beef, soy oil, sardines, mackerel and peanuts. Unfortunately, due to the poor bioavailability of CoQ10 you would need to eat high levels of fat with any of these in order to be able to absorb the CoQ10 effectively.

Supplements

Formulated in Cambridge, Co-enzyme Q10 from FutureYou is a highly bioavailable (easily absorbed) one-a-day health supplement that provides an easy way to boost CoQ10 levels in the body.

✔ 18x more absorbable than CoQ10 powder
✔ Suitable for statin users
✔ Helps maintain healthy CoQ10 levels

Why is bioavailability (absorbability) so important?

Bioavailability is the proportion of a substance, which enters the circulation when introduced into the body and so is able to have an active effect. At FutureYou we formulate bioavailable products, which means that we can keep our promise of delivering more of the good stuff to your body.

How is Co-enzyme Q10 from FutureYou made more bioavailable?

CoQ10 does not dissolve in water, which means it can't be absorbed easily into our bodies. To boost the bioavailability (absorbability) of CoQ10, our formulation combines it within a carbohydrate shell (called a cyclodextrin complex), which enables the two molecules to be absorbed together. Once the complex is absorbed the shell is broken down naturally by the body, releasing the CoQ10 to generate the energy that we need to function.
